About this campsite
Reviewed 2026-09-30 by Bearpath Editor. Research-based: written from the sources listed below, not from a visit.
Blackwood Lake is a rarely visited campsite in Olympic National Park located next to the lake of the same name. We understand there is no official trail leading to the campsite, so visitors must turn off the Bogachiel River Trail and bushwhack uphill to reach it.
We understand Blackwood Lake was once used more often by recreational anglers in the summer, but is no longer commonly visited and likely to be overgrown.
Blackwood Lake offers something close to solitude, with minimal camping and trail infrastructure.

Listing notes and park-wide rules
The Recreation.gov name carries the note “No Campfires”. It is quoted from Recreation.gov and not checked by Bearpath; confirm current rules with NPS before your trip.
Park-wide distance rule: NPS states that Recreation.gov will not book a campsite more than 15 miles from a trailhead or from the previous campsite, or more than 10 miles on the coast. For a longer distance, the Wilderness Information Center (WIC) sets up the permit by phone. Source: NPS backpacking FAQ (opens in a new tab).
